Welcome to the Empire Tavern!

The real Empire Tavern is a little dive in Fargo, North Dakota. Presumably, it's named after the Great Northern Railroad tracks running nearby (the GN's founder was known as the "Empire Builder").

This website is my own little empire, containing information and photographs relating to some of my favorite railroads and places.

Of course, there are more photos than you'd ever want in the Dakota Southern section.

I have lots of photos of the roundhouse and steam locomotive restoration at Sioux City.

Check out the night photos of Vermillion, SD, in the University of South Dakota page.

The main photo gallery currently includes:

  • Sisseton-Milbank RR
  • Milbank Train Festival
  • Milwaukee Road 261 in MN, ND, and SD
  • Amtrak at night in Fargo, ND
  • BN's 1998 derailment in Vermillion, SD

At the age of six, I knew I loved trains.
